ABOUT DR CHETWOOD
Dr John Chetwood is a consultant gastroenterologist with fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He trained in medicine at a leading English medical school (Imperial College London), obtaining multiple distinctions in his dual MBBS/BSc degrees. He undertook advanced specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Concord Hospital, and St Vincents Hospital Melbourne. He has worked as a specialist at St Vincents Hospital Sydney, St Vincents Hospital Melbourne, Concord Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital.
His clinical interests centre on inflammatory bowel disease - including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis - and intestinal ultrasound, a non-invasive imaging modality that has transformed how IBD is assessed and monitored in outpatient settings.
He is active in medical research, and has completed a PhD in advanced therapeutics in IBD through the University of Sydney. He received various prizes, awards and grants for his academic work, including a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council scholarship. He is an invited speaker at national and international academic conferences.
John is a member of GESA (Gastroenterological Society of Australia) and participates in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, he is accredited for gastroscopy, colonoscopy including polyp removal, and capsule endoscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
